I am a formalist painter inspired by the rich history of the pictorial conventions of art.  Abstraction is my favored mode of expression because it allows me to deal with these fundamental ideas in a more direct way.  I primarily work with structural, built-up forms that are often treated expressionistically.  Collage allows me to arrange these elements into robust compositions very quickly.  The medium’s mystique is that it enables a variety of interesting forms to come into play through its cut negative shapes, letting me select from a vast array of pieces to use within my work.

My recent work is marked by an interest in our human frame of reference and how it affects our perceptions and judgment of art.
